Waymo is is joining the enshitification of all services, with plans to use interior cameras and AI to target riders with advertisements and improve AI training.
Waymo appears to be among those companies that no longer believes paying a fair price for a service is enough, and is instead looking for every way to squeeze additional money out of customers, even at the expense of their privacy.
In a post on X, researcher Jane Manchun Wong showed an unreleased Privacy Page, demonstrating Waymo’s plans to use “interior camera data associated with rider’s identity” to serve ads, train AI, and sell data with other companies.
Waymo may be one of the leading autonomous vehicle companies, with its autonomous taxis already operating in some cities. Nonetheless, Waymo is a Google-owned company, so such a invasion of privacy should come as no great surprise.
