Snapchat is reportedly looking at an unusual way to drive revenue, with plans to charge users for access to an upcoming dark mode.
Dark mode is a popular option for many computer and smartphone users, with it generally being easier on the eyes while sporting a more modern look. Snapchat is one of the few large apps that doesn’t offer the feature.
According to leaker Alessandro Paluzzi, that’s about to change, with the company finally working to implement the option.
Unfortunately for users, it appears Snapchat will lock the new dark mode behind its Snapchat+ subscription service, meaning users will have to pay $4 per month if they want access.
