Pinterest Announces Rich Pin Updates

Pinterest announced some updates to two types of Rich Pins – Recipe Pins and Movie Pins.

For the former, Pinterest is adding rich data like ingredients, cook times, and servings to billions of pins, which will double the number of Recipe Pins in the system to 4 billion.

“The update makes it easier to plan meals on the go,” a spokesperson for Pinterest tells us. “Nearly 90% of Pinners are saving food and drink recipes on mobile devices. As Pinners plan for the Oscars, appetizer Pinning has increased 15% this month alone, and appetizers are 3x more popular this year than last.”

Pinterest is also doubling the number of Movie Pins, which include info like rating, cast members, and reviews to help users learn about films and curate their “must watch” lists.

“We first introduced Recipe and Movie Pins in 2013, and we’re continuing to invest in making Pins the most useful representation of an online object,” the spokesperson says. “As a catalog of ideas, our mission is to help Pinners discover everyday ideas, and recipes and entertainment are a big part of that.”

The updates are available to all Pinterest users globally on all platforms.
